Analysis on Mindanao Conflict

1. The colonizers as well as the Philippine government institutionalize exploitative stranglehold of Mindanao and Sabah because of rich mineral and aquatic resources. (Prof. Daim Abadi, BM News).

2. Malaysia utilized the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) as a forum to legitimize its greed to perpetuate the ownership of Sabah. Also, Malaysia always supported their Filipino counterparts to suppress the indigenous sentiment of the colonized Muslims in Mindanao to regain their national pride and total freedom.(Prof. Daim Abadi, BM News).

Conclusion

1. Tragically, the century old conflict in Mindanao resulted to the mass killing of women, children and aged, burning of mosques and sacred homes and countless material losses. It turned the region to be one of the poorest provinces in the country.

2. The century-old Mindanao Conflict is the result of the economic and political emasculation of the colonial powers which successfully downgraded the Sultanate of Sulu and the greedy intention of the Malaysian Government to stop the Sultanate’s claim on Sabah.

3. The conflict in Mindanao redounds to the historical and ancestral rights of the Sultanate of Sulu which guided the national survival of the Muslims during the Spanish and American period

Recomendation

REVIVE THE SULTANATE, AND ONCE MORE RESTORE THE MECHANISM THAT GUARANTEES UNITY WHICH IN THE PAST PROVED TO BE THE KEY TO SURVIVING OVERWHELMING ODDS thru the following:

a. Building of mosques, Islamic Centers and Madrasah.

b. Re-enforce Islamic faith, programs and activities to be under the leadership of the Sultan.

c. Institute socio-economic development for the livelihood of the people that will spur the economy in the region.

d. Restoration of the cultural and historical sites in the area .

e. Implement interfaith for peace and development and for the coexistence of the people irregardless of religion.
