Sultan Jamalul Kiram III was chosen as the lone senatorial candidate from the Muslim sector by the government's party (Team Unity) in the 2007 Senatorial election for two main reasons: 1) for the world to known that there is a Sultan of Sulu whose history is the root of the history of the Filipino people , and, 2) to erase the "bogus sultans."



The participation of Sultan Jamalul Kiram III in this political exercise is tantamount to the Philippine government's recognition that he is the legitimate and rightful sultan of Sulu.
