Introduction of armed conflict in Mindanao
Operation “Merdeka” (Aug-Dec 1967)
- 200 Tausug & Sama recruits from Sulu & Tawi-Tawi trained in Simunul for possible intrusion in Sabah. Transferred to Corregidor to complete training.
Jabidah Massacre (Mar 1968)
- Recruits refuse to obey their orders when they learned about the true nature of their mission. Only 1 survives the massacre.

- Malaysia’s response to the failed RP attempt . MNLF formed by : Nur Misuari (Tausug/Sama group), Abul Khayr Alonto (Bangsa Moro Liberation Front) & Hashim Salamat (Maguindanao group). Armed conflict begins in Mindanao.
